Blocking
1. A knitted crossword being blocked.

2. Show your working! The reverse side of the crossword - note the lines of white yarn being carried along the back (one such line is highlighted in red).
Gusset pegged all around
3. Gusset pinned around crossword, and being sewn on.
Room for the handle tag
4. Make sure you have room for the handle tag!

5. Stitches picked up around the top, to deepen the top hem. This step isn't necessary if you've calculated the room needed for your bag handles properly the first time ;)
Inner pocket
6. The inside pocket.
Elastic strap
7. Sewing the elastic strap on; each line of stitches forms a little 'slot'.
Top hem
8. The last step of the lining : the top hem.
Plastic sides
9. Slide the plastic pieces into the gap between the knitted bag and the lining.
Lining pinned in
10. Lining pinned in to the bag, ready for sewing in.
Inside the finished bag
11. Inside the finished bag. Note pencil held in the elastic strap.
