Denise Sutherland was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1960-something. She has always been fascinated with puzzles, and started to teach herself how to write them as a child. Murder mysteries, non-fiction, and comedies are her favourite to read.
Since 2009 she has written four titles in the For Dummies series, and been technical editor on three Dummies titles for Wiley. She has also written five themed puzzle books for children, including The Fantastic Flying Doctors’ Puzzle Book and two books in The Canberra Puzzle Book series, which cover the history and heritage of Australia’s capital city.
Denise was born with hip dysplasia. In 2009 she teamed up with orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Sophie West (also a sufferer) to write A Guide for Adults with Hip Dysplasia. This world-first book was published in December 2011. In January 2015 she published The Patient’s Guide to Neurosarcoidosis.
She has a degree in graphic design, and also studied biological sciences at the Australian National University. In the past, she has worked as a lab technician at CSIRO Plant Industry, and now works as a graphic designer, editor, and book indexer.
Denise lives in Canberra. She is married, and has two grown-up children, and two chihuahuas. In her free time she loves knitting and painting watercolours.
